How We Care
We
are a small family home that has been providing
care since 1990. One service user has been with
us for all of that time and vacancies are rare.
Tanglewood is our family home which we share with
two disabled people with visual impairment, three
dogs and two cats. There is also a host of family
& friends who regularly drop in.
Our ethos is providing a stimulating,
safe & secure, comfortable, healthy, family environment,
within which each individual is enabled to maximize
their quality of life and independence. All
our accommodation and facilities are on the ground
floor and are wheelchair friendly. Specialist
dietary needs are catered for as part of a well
balanced dietary regime, with a great emphasis on
home cooked food.
We encourage normalisation by
a programme of activities such as swimming, eating
out, shopping, keep fit, etc. within the local community
and further afield.
Location and Environment
We
are a detached house situated in a rural location
on the outskirts of Hawkinge village. We have
large, secure and safe decked area at the rear of
the house which may be enjoyed all the year round,
along with our gardens. The house backs on
to Reinden Wood where there are some 3 miles of
woodland paths for relaxing and healthy walks.
The village shops and multi-cultural takeaway establishments
are about 1/2 a mile away and are a regular destination
for our walks for personal shopping.
Activities
Activities are tailored to the needs of the individual.
Daily exercise includes walks to the village or
in the adjoining woodland.
Weekly swimming at the local pool.
Weekly keep fit sessions at a local specialised
gym.
Weekly shopping trips for personal and household
items.
Painting,
drawing and food preparation activities.
In-house keep fit activities.
Foot massages in the garden in summer.
Regular excursions to local and county destinations.
Day trips to France by tunnel and by ferry.
Annual family holiday, which is usually abroad.
Turkey, Lanzarote and Normandy have all been
visited in recent years.

Testimonial

"We are the parents of one of
Tanglewood's service users, our son has
been living with Kay and her family
since 1990 and we couldn't be happier.
He is very happy and relaxed these days,
but, when he first went to Kay he had a
lot of behavioural issues that meant he
could be quite challenging. Over the
years with Kay he has been treated with
great kindness and patience and also
thoughtfulness. After many years of
worry and concern about him it is now
such a relief to feel totally confident
that not only is he well cared for but
that he is very happy. Our son has two
sisters who often joke that him having a
'normal' life has gone too far because
he has a much better lifestyle than they
have!
We also appreciated the amount of
thought and care that was taken to make
sure when a new person moved into
Tanglewood that it was someone who would
be compatible with our son. All in all I
cannot recommend Kay and her family
highly enough. If anyone is looking into
a placement at Tanglewood and would like
to talk to us, we would be happy to do
so." |
